Glossary: Custom Home Builder

A custom home builder works with a customer to construct their home based on an agreed up set of plans and specifications. Custom Home Builders may use plans created by an architect, by a professional home designer, or by the builder (this is knows as a Design-Build service). Often times the builder constructs the home on land owned by the customer, but some builders build on land they or an investor owns – this is knows as a spec home. Custom Home Builders usually build higher-end homes and generally build in a smaller volume than production builders.
