Glossary: Allowances

Custom Home Builders will sometimes provide budgets for homeowner selections of plumbing fixtures, lighting fixtures, windows or doors, and so on. The allowance gives the homeowner a budgetary target for selecting these items but also allows for the flexibility to go below or above the recommended budget. The homeowners are not locked into a set selection package, but rather are able to freely customize many aspects of their home to their distinct tastes and preferences without having to frequently sign off on costly change orders.
